Open April 7th to 28th, 2018.
“Otherwise” by Brad Nycek is the creative output from a year-long artistic residency at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto (CAMH), for the duration of 2017. At CAMH, Brad immersed himself in the clinical experience of being a patient within the hospital and visually responded to those experiences. It is from this visual/creative research that Brad created the body of artwork for “Otherwise.”
Screening & Discussion with Brad Nycek
Saturday April 7th, 2018, from 1-3pm.
The auto-ethnographic film builds on experiences thinking about time and genetically passed down altered states. Visiting artist/researcher at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, Brad Necyk had unprecedented access to the hospital and its patients. The film builds off previous explorations into his ancestors, his current mental state, and thinking forward through his children, rocking back and forth in time. Brad hopes that through such a vulnerable exploration through those experiences it will open a space for dialogue around mental health and suicide.
After the screening a dialogue will begin between Art Fix Representative Serena Kataoka, Local artist Jaymie Lathem and Brad Necyk himself.
