Bursting the Bubble

Bursting the Bubble is a two part youth-led anti-stigma arts workshop series on Saturday May 7th, designed to illustrate community members’ interpretations of and experiences with mental health and mental illness.

This workshop series is being held in celebration of Child and Youth’s Mental Health Week (May 1st to May 7th, 2016). This is an annual provincial initiative that promotes awareness of mental health issues and available community supports.

No registration required; drop-in to either or both of the following FREE workshops!  All are welcome, but young people are encouraged to attend. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided!

Part 1: Comic Arts Workshop, 11am-2pm

If you can draw stick figures, then you’ve got what it takes to participate in this workshop.  Artist Jaymie Lathem will be there to help you create your own comic art pieces focusing on the theme of mental health/mental illness.  Art supplies will be provided, so just bring your awesome self!

Part 2: Zine Workshop, 3-6pm

As a group we will produce a zine – a DIY magazine – focusing on the theme of mental health/mental illness.  Christine Charette will facilitate this workshop, introducing participants to different techniques for designing zine pages.  Materials will be provided, but if you are welcome to bring a comic from the previous workshop, fragments of writing or sketches, or even completed pieces to contribute to the zine.

Each artist will get their own copy of the finished Zine!

If you want your wonderful mental health themed art to be entered into the zine but are unable to attend the zine workshop, please feel free to email us a scanned copy of your artwork (or we may be able to scan it quickly before you leave the comic art workshop).
