MISSION:
White Water Gallery is committed to
the professional presentation of contemporary visual artists who are
breaking new ground at the leading edge of artistic expression. The
gallery strives to increase public awareness and accessibility to
contemporary visual arts within their community.
MANDATE:
To develop a programming space that
promotes artistic development and progressive initiatives by visual,
media, literary, and experimental artists. As a regional arts centre
White Water Gallery recognizes its need to serve a diverse group of
artists and arts practitioners. In 2008 the White Water Gallery
reviewed and expanded its mandate, and established that it would
continue to aid artists at varying levels in their careers by
addressing their needs in several different ways:
-
Student Artists: Students will be
exposed to, and able to participate in the assembly of a variety
of exhibitions from established artists from across Canada. They
will gain arts administration knowledge and curatorial skills by
experiencing hands-on how an exhibition is organized and developed
from beginning to end.
-
Emerging/new-generation Artists: The
White Water Gallery pays full CARFAC approved rates to all
exhibitions selected by the programming committee. Additionally,
the White Water Gallery hosts a series of juried, group & member’s
shows throughout the year. Artists that are prepared to start
exhibiting their work will have the opportunity to start building
their Artist Curriculum Vitae through participation in these
shows. Emerging Artists that apply for solo exhibitions will
receive the same consideration as mid-career and established
artists from the White Water Gallery’s programming selection
committee.
-
Mid-Career & Established Artists:
The White Water Gallery pays full CARFAC approved rates to all
exhibitions selected by the programming committee. Additionally,
the White Water Gallery will be hosting yearly exhibitions that
require Jurors. Mid-career and established artists will be given
the opportunity to act as jurors, using their experience to
directly aid emerging artists through the jury process.

Brief History
Founded in 1977, the White Water Gallery was created to
facilitate artists that were unable to find venues for their
exhibitions. Many of these artists feel they started their art
careers through the White Water Gallery. Over the years the
vision statement of this Artist-Run Centre has changed to
satisfy the needs of North Bay’s art community. In 2008 the
White Water Gallery reviewed its mandate and established that it
would continue to aid artists by 1) presenting art exhibitions
from across Canada, and 2) educating emerging artists by having
them participate in every aspect of the gallery’s functions to
gain an understanding of how these exhibitions are created and
how they can apply this knowledge to their own exhibition
proposals.
